PRAISE thE GODS!
MEMORANDUM
To: His Majesty, the Queen!
From: Sir
Richard Wadd, Paleographer
Re: $OKRATE$ and FAIDRO$
"In what sense?" inquired
the curious man,
Taking for his cue the Socratic method.
His subtext was a tale of ignorance;
Of pretending not to know what was meant
By the introductory utterance
Of his interloquatious companion.
'Twas a wise and venerable strategy,
Inviting his young friend to expand his thoughts,
And contextualize his original words.
In a senTS, the Satyr was buying
some time:
Allowing his bewildered beloved
To reveal even more of his fresh world view,
The better then to understand and respond.
And lo, assuredly sweet Phaidros
swelled,
And cautiously his lover listened,
And soon enough discovered the Real Issue.
So began their more profound conversation.
And when the seeking boy with wisdom
was mated,
The curious man, happy to have served,
Credited the encounter's great success
To his first and perfect parry, "In what sen¢?"
